Metric Prevailing Torque Lock Nuts
Metric Prevailing Torque Lock Nuts use different methods to create their prevailing torque. All Metal nuts have deformed threads in their cone top; Nylon Insert nuts use a captive undersized nylon washer to create prevailing torque. The side with the flat bearing surface is installed first and wrenching is required to install and remove these nuts. All Metal nuts are not afflicted by the chemical or temperature limitations of Nylon Insert nuts but reuse of both is limited due to a decline in prevailing torque. Thread galling may occur with All Metal and stainless steel Nylon Insert nuts. All Metal Prevailing Torque Lock Nuts are also known as Automation Style Lock Nuts and Nylon Insert Lock Nuts are also called Nylock Nuts and Stop Nuts.
